IN-CLASS ONLINE LESSON #10
Why this is outrageous.. I have had enough of this anti-Semitism, we as Jews are not respected enough! They had ruined our lives, disgraced our race, and disrespected our religion. They blamed us for this practice known as the Blood libel which appeared in Arab television shows. Blood libel is a practice that we do not even know about nowadays. It is a false accusation that religious minorities, usually Jews, murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays. This is absurd! We do not even have practices like this anymore! Our ancestors might have performed this practice before, but it is wrong for you to accuse the new generations anymore! Hath your ancestors not made mistake; hath a person receive a wrong accusation just because of other’s wrong? Just because of various rumours? Hath those that made those mistakes not paid their price? In almost every case, Jews were murdered, sometimes by a mob, sometimes following torture and a trial. Some of us might not mind being spit at, being referred to the devil because of our red hair, or be pushed around, but we certainly cannot tolerate the insults of our religion! Are we not the same as any other person from another religion? Are we not humans too?

T2 Reflections
Narrative: descriptive prose
Narcissism
I feel that some of the problems are that teenagers would be too rebellious, people would make wrong decisions and that economy would drop due to some issues associated with the citizens with narcissism.
I feel that teenagers would be too rebellious because of the thought that they are free to do anything they like, which includes dropping out of schools, getting into fights and more. One example is in the Bt Panjang gang fight which happened in November 2010. Police have arrested six people, aged between 15 and 23 years, in connection with a gang fight at Bukit Panjang on Monday night and subsequently 19 young men between 17 and 22 years old were arrested at the Subordinate Courts on Wednesday, in which they are believed to be gang members. This case showed how narcissism can affect Singapore as although Law stated that illegal gathering and fights are against the law, teenagers still broke the law and carried out with gang fights, feeling that they can do whatever they want and that they would be able to escape anything, which is a sign of narcissism.
Also, narcissism can affected Singapore because of Singaporeans choosing the wrong decision. One example is in the recent Singapore elections, in which 2 GRCs were lost and PAP have had lesser votes as compared to the previous election in which PAP lost 6.46% of votes as compared to the last election, this would cause a great impact on Singapore as if the opposition party accidentally won, would they have what it takes to govern Singapore? The result decrease was caused by citizens, with narcissism. They thought that if they wanted to show unhappiness to PAP because of recent disputes, they could vote for the opposition because they have what "it takes to". This is a form of selfishness as they might not have thoughts of the consequences. Thus, narcissism might cause people to make the wrong decision.
Lastly, the economy would drop due to some issues associated with the citizens with narcissism. If Singaporeans were to have develop narcissism, they would be selfish and egoistic, causing a drop in tourism, because tourists might not want to visit Singapore as the citizens are not welcoming them and show excessive amount of narcissism and thus, tourism would drop, affecting Singapore's economy.
In conclusion, I feel that narcissism in Singapore would cause teenagers to be over rebellious, would also make Singaporean's make the wrong decision and would also affect the economy.

Narrative Speech
“ ‘Bout what?”
“ The world coming to an end.”
“An end?”
“Yes, an end! Everyone has been talking about it.”
“How come I’m the only one in the dark?”
“No idea, but it is estimated that the world would end by tomorrow.”
“How is that possible?”
“Scientist research showed that gigantic meteorites would hit the Earth’s surface by tomorrow, travelling at the speed of 500m/sec!”
“Omigod, we’re doomed… Anyway to escape?”
“No… Maybe, I think that they were working on a private underwater home, called “Watome”, enough to supply for about a few hundred thousand people.”
“But how would it help?”
“Scientists think that if the meteorite hit the water surface, it would slow down to a speed that would not cause much damage.”
“But… Would it work?”
“Yes, maybe, if the meteorites that hit the water does not heat the water up, it might work.”
“What about the other kids? And our parents?”
“They’re finding out more news, in the center of the town.”
“What’s happening in town?”
“The mayor is making an important speech, which all adults need to attend.”
“What about the children? Don’t they need to know something about this thing?”
“The scientist kept this news so secretive to everyone, even some other governments don’t know about this?”
“We’re in deep soup…”
“But there must be something we can do…”
“Nothing, when the meteorites hit the Earth’s surface it would crack and break, subsequent hits would cause the Earth’s core to crack… And that would be the end.”
“Like how dinosaurs died… And I still doubted it.”
“There’s no time for nonsense! We gotta go to the beach.”
“Wait… Why?”
“I heard that the project of the “Watome” is just around the area of the beach, grab your snorkel, we’re going to go diving.”

The Next Space Race!
I feel that private commercial space travel is a good thing because of experiments, gaining of newer knowledge and chances for people to go into space.
I feel that private commercial space travel is a good thing because of experiments people would be able to do. With the exception of NASA, private commercial space travel could be a kind of experiment for people, as things might be give a turn when scientist, whose experiments needs to be in space, can do so, with the help of these private commercial space travels. Space programs to explore space might also be launch for a group of students, who can afford the price to go into space for school programs, for people to better understand space, thus private commercial space travel is a good thing as people can experiment.
Private commercial space travel is also a good thing because people might have a deeper knowledge of space. Excluding the group of people who paid for the trip, astronauts who wants to explore space by himself when he feel that some parts of space is not explored, he could try it out himself and will not need to go with NASA as he might have a mission when going into space already. Thus Private commercial space travel is a good thing as people might have a deeper knowledge of space.
Finally, Private commercial space travel is a good thing because there would be a chance for people to go to space, instead of trained professionals. That means that whoever willing to spend that amount of money to go to space, would be able to. Instead of being a professional astronaut, someone could just pay the amount of money to space travel, and thus raising the economic of a certain country if they manage to get hold of space shuttle. Thus Private commercial space travel is a good thing as normal people can go to space.
In summary, Private commercial space travel is a good thing because people could experiment in space, have a greater knowledge of space and normal people can go to space, raising the economy of a country.

Online Lesson # 9
1) He is describing the long guns to be cannons on ships.
2) The Jackies in the poem are probably people who are in charge of the cannons in the ship. They were singing war chanties to celebrate the death of the enemies.
3) The shovel will finish the job of what the gun did.
4) The significance of the title is to show the citizens and soldiers are just tools to contribute towards the war effort.
5) The effect of the contrasting actions shows that war is repetitive and pointless because it causes destruction to the work created. The persona’s attitude towards the soldiers and workmen is that they are endless working tools towards war.
6) The harder part is to build a society back up again rather than bringing it down., such as the case of World War 2, Japan was the cause of World War 2 and caused much destruction in its path, but the America’s bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused many deaths and a huge amount of destruction, which eventually led to the end of World War 2. Many countries took a long time to rebuild after Japan’s attacks, and caused many problems, such as Singapore taking 15 years to recover while the Japanese only arrived for 3 years. Therefore the harder part is to build a society back up again.
7) Deaths are becoming quicker and more silent, the drum of hoofs change into motors running, showing the changes of sounds heard during war, and the future wars are silent, deadly, showing the change from men to machines, the sound of wheels and the loss of war cries.
8) Gaddafi has been kicked under the dust recently, and the citizens follow their own cause, showing the change from leadership to democracy.

LA Home learning 24-25May 2011
They washed out the blood, we loaded our rucks and then took to the skies (They washed out the blood of those who died in the helicopter and asked the author and his mates to go into the helicopter.)
Over the mountains, villages, and valleys we flew (The destination is far away from the starting point.)
Where we would land we had not a clue (The soldiers were not briefed before the mission, not knowing what would happen)
Bullets are flying, the LZ is hot (LZ stands for landing zone, and when it is hot, it means that there are many hostiles around it.)
We're leaving this bird whether we like it or not (the bird is actually a helicopter, and the soldiers have no choice but to leave the helicopter)
30 seconds they yelled, Lock N Load and grab your shit (anxiety because they never use correct terms and Lock N Load would mean reloading the gun and preparing oneself)
Get ready to go and make it quick (They are in a hurry.)
My heart is pumping adrenalin through all of my veins (Anxious because the author might die anything without knowing why.)
I run as fast as I can through the lead rain (The lead rain is being compared to a rain of bullets as bullets are made up of lead.)
The noise is tremendous, terror I can't define (The sound of gunshots are terrifying because there might be a chance of getting hit by the bullet.)
The only reason I survived that day was divine (The author was utterly lucky to survive as the examples mentioned above made surviving look like an impossible task.)
I kept pulling the trigger and reloading and pulling some more (He only did this action because it is the only thing he had to do as mentioned in line 14.)
You do what you have to do, with that I will say no more (He knew what he had to did and did exactly as told)
We fought from the valleys to the mountain peaks (The time fought was long and the distance was far)
From house to cave, to car to creek (The places they had to fight at were weird, which means that war is unexpected and nothing is impossible in war.)
Dirty and tired and hungry and scared (The moral of most soldiers were dropping due to all these factors, making scared one of the biggest factors in lowering the moral of soldiers.)
We slept with our boots on so we were always prepared (They were needed to be always prepared so that they would not lose out in a battle)
Those majestic mountains so steep, so high they kiss the skies (The mountains were so huge they could literally “kiss” the skies at the top of the mountains.)
The Hindu Kush has changed so many lives (The Hindu Kush mountain range that stretches between central Afghanistan and northern Pakistan.)
Up the mountains with heavy loads we trod (As mentioned in line 20, the mountains, being so steep, were still made a route for the soldiers to trek through, despite it being steep and the soldiers being tired.)
Who knew hell was so close to God (The close to death experiences made soldiers feel that hell was so close to God because of the mountains and terrain of the place where they are fighting at.)
Beauty and terror are a strong mixed drink (Experiencing both sides of life in a single life they lead, they feel that both beauty and terror made a strong mixed drink.)
So we drank it like drunkards and tried not to think (They did not want to think about their current stage of life, which is experiencing terror, so they felt that not thinking about terror was better.)
Good men and bad men, Mothers lost sons (At both sides of evil vs. good, mothers still loses their sons)
Everyone loses their innocence when they carry guns (Guns are the force of evil, making anyone lose their innocence because with guns they were given the ability to kill someone instantly.)
Washed in the blood, and baptized by fire (Washed in blood means that there were a lot of blood in the battlefield and baptized by fire meant soldier's first experience under fire in battle.)
I will never forget those who were called higher
They say blood is thicker than water, well lead is thicker than blood (No matter how thick blood is as compared to water, lead will still win blood and that would mean that lead could destroy blood, in other words kill.)
Brothers aren't born they're earned. In the poppy fields, the tears, and the mud (Brothers, friends also soldiers like oneself are not meant to be called brothers upon birth, but instead earned through hardships they have gone through and through help people give.
And when I get to heaven to Saint Peter I will tell (Saint Peter is one of a messenger to God and the author would like to tell him that he would like to spend his time in hell in line 33.)
Another Paratrooper reporting for duty sir, I spent my time in hell (Paratroopers are soldiers trained in parachuting and generally operate as part of an airborne force, and because of his guilt, he would like to spend his time in hell as he feel that he do not deserve his after-life in heaven and the use of the word “another” means that there more than one paratrooper who reported, which means that there were a lot of fatalities in war.)

Racial Slurs
"Racial slurs should be illegal".
Intro: I oppose the statement that racial slurs should be illegal. It should be not illegal because it does not cause physical harm to the victim, but it does cause mental harm and harm to the victim’s dignity. That could be easily countered with a high moral of the victim, and the ability to “close one eye” or let it off. The culprit would then feel like he was doing something useless or acting stupid and would then stop. Another reason why it should not be illegal is because racial slur is merely a nickname which is used for races using the characteristics between the nickname and the people associated in it. Some racial slurs might also be made when a race does something significant, for examples, “Jap” is a racial slur for Japanese, who were part of WW2. It might not feel like a racial slur because saying “Jap” might not be an insult to the Japanese. Racial slurs should also not be illegal because it might only be said privately, and it is used for all races. For example, two people of the same race, might address another person of another race using a racial slur privately, will that mean that one of the person might report to the police, saying that his/her friend addressed another person of another race using racial slur and what punishment should be issued? Jailing, fine or canning. All of those punishments might a bit too unreasonable for just a verbal speech, which might be said accidentally or purposely.
