IN-CLASS ONLINE LESSON #4

1a. The basketball court is one of the most crowded places in my neighbourhood. (Sight) The ground on the basketball court is clear white, made of cement. The marking on the floor is made clearly, every turn is made into a perfect 90 degree angle. The post stands tall, at around 2.4metres and the net is a perfect circle, just around the size of the basketball, but bigger to increase the chances of scoring.
b. (Hearing) The sound is indeed unique. The beat of the ball is constant with one or more beats at the time. If it is just as synchronized, it will become a musical beat already.
c. (Sight) The panels on the street football court are colourful, to match the colour of the playground on the left. The lights stand tall and majestic and will shine brighter than the stars at night.
d. (Hearing) The cheers often come from both the courts. The winning cheers and the losing cheer, some of the teams, which they play serious for recreation, will cheer to do better if they lost and cheer if they won. All filled with joy.

I'm afraid...

I'm afraid of the next day I am going to face after today. Life is full of challenges, yes, that is undeniable. But something that is impossible to miss is tomorrow. Tomorrow is the only road of choice you have if you want to continue your life. Tomorrow is the key to your success, but what about the today of your tomorrow? Is something drastic going to happen to you, that cost you something more than anything precious in your life? Are you going to lose your loved ones? That is one of the reason I hate tomorrow. But I only have today and tomorrow in my hand. So why not treasure it? But the kind of stress, the unpleasant surprises I might and MUST face is intolerable. The requirements for the world we are living in now is a fast paced and stressful life. I'm afraid of tomorrow and what it might bring and I’m afraid of the today, that will bring about the tomorrow. The cause of the fear is because of this society, this fast paced life, this stress brought to us that caused us to be like that, like what? Side effects was casted like a spell on us, like why are you rushing this? Why are you doing these things both at the same time? Why are the skipping lunch or dinner? Why? It’s because the today we have is not being cherished enough, we do not have the time to stop and look outside, to think about how the trees are growing, whether they have enough water, whether the sky’s blue, whether it will rain, do we look at all this? No. Especially not in Singapore, on a weekend from 6a.m to 7p.m. Because today is short.

I'm tired.

I'm tired of the life I am leading now. I am like a robot, doing the same thing just for the sake of doing it. What I do every morning, is what I will do, and what I must do, the next morning. It all seemed like a drill to me, seeing every day, slipping through my fingers. Tasting the sour and bitter part of life. I am tired of it. I got to find something interesting to make my life better. Technology, academics, finance, especially money, is certainly important in life. But sometimes, it might seem like bliss to me, having fun. But most of the time, it might seem like hell to me. So tired of this kind of life, but it will be too epic for a change. The overwhelming importance of studies and life skills just make life even worst. Friends could not be trusted most of the time and finding a true friend seemed impossible. Treating them good, does not mean they will treat you back the same way you treated them. Life is also unfair, but that will be another story. For life, I am speechless, since I probably have not found out the true meaning of life. The meaning in which we carry throughout our lives and that meaning will guide us through the pain that we will suffer and make us stronger and better.

Neighborhood I live in.

Using specific sensory details, describe accurately the Neighborhood I live in.

My neighborhood is a very unique since there are different scenes happening every day. The sight of the sun rising is especially clear with the translucent clouds drifting around it. The magnificent fitness corner located underneath my block will be filled with cheerful children, running around happily. Their laughter is certainly unforgettable. Adults chatting spread through the neighborhood as they laugh and joked. There is a wet market that is always busy in the early morning. Calls of sales and offers are broadcast using the loud and harsh voice of the fishmonger, butcher and others. There are also 2 coffee shops located at both the end of the long stretch of business. The crowd of people eating breakfast, lunch and dinner there are certainly happy, since food is cheap and delicious. The smell of the food is also very tantalizing. I definitely tasted the food there. I usually go for dinner during the weekends with my family and it never fails to make me want more. But the disadvantage of eating there is obviously the lack of cleanliness, even though the food tastes nice. The pests there are also very disgusting when eating, but there is always a price to pay for cheap good stuffs.

o make me want more.

Vivid Childhood memory.

A vivid childhood memory of an event that helped to influence who I am today is a lesson I learnt from my friends, about true friends are difficult to find. That was because I had a friend, who was supposedly my "best friend", had suddenly turned his back against me and went with another friend. Why I felt hurt was because he was with me most of the time and we had lunch together, just like brothers until he changed to the more arrogant type. With his other "true friends", he found them better and more compatible with... I was too gullible to think that he would be my sworn brother, that was because I did not know how the society was like and was probably in-experienced and immature at that time. Now I know that sometimes, true friends are difficult to find and that we should treat them equally until they shows up. That is usually called affinity.

IN-CLASS ONLINE LESSON #3

After the discussion in class, we have found out that Atticus Finch has a high level of tolerance and is able to deal with problems that happens in the book and like the problems that we discussed too. We separated the criterias into different segments of tolerance and the result, the cause. We also mentioned the different point of views that we had towards Atticus and his actions. I was proud that Atticus was never ashamed of whatever the crowd is talking about him and still, continued defending Tom Robinson despite the odds of winning the case and the disadvantage that will be brought to him. Back to the topic of tolerance, I still think that Atticus' level of tolerance is very high to be able to withstand the crowd's criticism and threats posted to him. He also wishes to spread the message that racism is unfair and not too good for the people in May-comb, although most people are also with Atticus, the overpowering of the rich and "highly socialized" people made it seem impossible but Atticus never gave up. These are examples of Atticus' tolerance.

Here's our information that we discussed in google docs:

A scene from my favourite movie..

My favourite movie is Avatar, the scene is the different new plants and creatures there. Plants that are mostly colourful, and the animals are weird in which there are monkeys which have 4 legs and look like wolves. This scene was when Jake was new to the environment and was exploring around when he met these weird creatures. The ground would have a distinct glow when you step on at, making the planet colourful and cheerful.

Who my favourite character in To Kill A Mockingbird is...

Who my favourite character in To Kill a Mockingbird, and why? What makes her appealing to me?
My favourite character in To Kill a Mockingbird is Scout because she is curious and willing to learn things even when she was told not to.

Singapore Short Story.

A short story about an ordinary boy in Singapore, changing from good to bad, which changed his life and cost him his own life for it. Choosing the right route in Singapore was difficult sometimes due to influence from others and this story is about not doing the wrong things and then regretting it and never trust anyone, others than family or yourself.

“I think I’m just an ordinary child in Singapore, no one needs me anyway…” Jonathan thought to himself… He was just doing his homework during a Saturday morning and he was already feeling sick and tired of school. He was a Primary 5 student, with an average result and a normal home. He was never interested in studying, only in gaming and he always had an interest in technology, but he was too lazy to learn more about it. Education is very important in Singapore, especially because Singapore is a well-developed country, life here is fast paced and “Easy going”. Some people had diploma certificates, but jobs were so scarce that achieving such a level of education, you might not find a job.
Jonathan was going to be a Primary 6 student soon, but he was still not aware of the importance of PSLE, Primary School Leaving Examination. He always treated it as an unimportant examination; failing it was not a problem for him. He was interested in sports like soccer, but his parents did not allow him to play soccer, always saying that PSLE came first. During his Primary 5 end year holiday, Jonathan was very bored at home, so he sneaked out to find something new or interesting to play…
“Finally! I’m free!” Jonathan thought to himself as he walked to the soccer field. The soccer field had people playing soccer and a group crowding around a bench area. Jonathan went up and asked, “Err, can I play soccer with you all?” A guy wearing a slanted cap and singlet went up to him and replied, “Who you?” Jonathan replied: “I’m Jonathan, so how? Can I join?” The same person replied: “Okay larh, but you can only play when we say so, just help to pick the ball when it goes far away, and add me on “Facebook” if you have arh, my nickname is called ‘Ah Beng’, just add me larh.” Jonathan felt happy, and yet curious why the person’s English was not very good. He was not aware that he was being used as a retriever, being asked to pick up the ball when told to and in the end, he did not even kick the ball, and if he tried to, they ask him to stop or shout at him.
“Aiyo! Jonathan arh, where did you go? I looked for you everywhere!” screamed Jonathan’s mother as he reached home, Jonathan felt afraid as he murmured: “Err, I… I went… to my friend’s house, mammy, to do project.”
“Huh? Project? Then why never tell me? Make me so worried you know?”
“Sorry mum...”
Jonathan went to his room, feeling sorry and regretful, remembered something! He turned on his computer and added his “friend” on “Facebook”, a social networking application. During the holidays, he came in touch with them very often and played soccer with them, like they were his “brothers”, they had never ill-treated him or did him wrong, which he thought they were his true friends, his results decreased drastically but his parents were too busy working that they did not notice that Jonathan became rowdy and vulgar, until one day, something happened that changed his life…
“Eh, Johnny, I need you to do something for me, can or not?”
“Yeah, Ah Beng, wassup?”
“You see the auntie over there? I need you to rob her.”
“WHAT?! ROB?! Why? And how? How can you all do illegal things?”
“Oi, just rob only, if we are brothers then you rob. Don’t talk to me about what illegal things.”
Jonathan was stunned, all this time he thought they were legal and loyal citizens, until this happened, but for their sake, for the “brotherhood” they promised to give him, being immature that time, he could not think well and so went to do it, not knowing the consequences. He took up all his courage and walked forward towards the auntie, she looked frail and like she had not eaten for days, she was pushing a trolley full of cans and newspapers, and was carrying an old raggedy bag. Jonathan walked forward and covered her mouth by forced, she held back but her strength was overpowered by a teenager’s strength. She shouted “HELP” and held to her bag with little force, there was a mere struggle between Jonathan and the auntie, Jonathan, being young, has an advantage towards her and she let go, as if she surrendered, she fell to the ground.
Passers-by looked at the scene while some called and some rushed forward to help. Jonathan was anxious now and he started to panic… He ran as fast as he could towards the direction his friends met just now and they were gone, not even a shadow! His heart was beating faster than the engine of a car and he started running, memories of his life and when he met his” friends” flashed… Remembering how they forced him to eat drugs and smoke made him less surprised of what is happening now, and remembering how good life was without them… He regretted all that happened; he hated himself and them… He hated how unfair life was, which it is. But regretting now was not an option; he just had to keep running, until he ran to the roadside. And the traffic light was red, people were chasing him, under a lot of stress a child can barely cope he gave up, he ran across the road without hesitating… A car raced by and knocked him down. Jonathan felt an immersed pain on his back as he flew a few foot from the place he stood. He cried as tears rolled down his cheeks. And after a few breaths, he fainted, thinking how his life came and go, and how unfair he was treated, how stupid he was, he would let it all go and he did. People who made him into this state lived on not for a few more days of freedom and was caught by the police and sent to boy’s school. And Jonathan parents, cried continuously for quite some time, this is how deep the influence of friends can have on you, you choose your own road, not letting others to decide for you, and neither do you regret after doing something wrong. As parents, they play a part in their children’s life, concentrating on work and neglecting their children was never a choice but would they choose over their child or money, and would Jonathan be forgiven? The End~

My favourite fictional character.

My favourite fictional character is Jake in the movie "Avatar". I like his determination, and his empathy towards the creatures in the planet. Because of human's destruction done in the creatures in the planet, he helped them try to fight against his own kind, betraying them and won the battle. Afterwards, he decided to stay in the planet to live with the creatures there. His sense of loyalty towards the creatures were also an honour that was given to him by the "God" in the planet. What makes him memorable to me? He is the main character and was the important person that was help win the war against humans.
